Los Diezmos y Las Ofrendas

(For English, see below)

A great act of worship to the Lord is our giving. We give through tithes, offerings and alms to the poor or needy. Sometimes we people ask about the tithe and how to calculate it. We'll discuss that below, but basically we need to understand that we now live under grace (New Testament), and not law (Old Testament). There are godly directions about our giving attitudes and practices, but we don't tithe to avoid lighting bolts. We tither because we love God and want to honor Him with the first fruits of our labors.

We sincerely believe that God honors the one who gives of a generous heart. The scriptures tell us in Mark 11:25: "A generous man will prosper;mhe who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. As you partner with us in our international work, the Lord will bless you for your generosity.  Our ministry reaches into the lives of Hispanics, and others, all over the world. Many of the people who attend our church in Florida literally move on to other parts of the world, carrying the Gospel with them. We thank you for planting your prayers and resources into their lives. May the Lord bless you abundantly!

The Three Kinds of Giving

1) The Tithe - The tithe is ten percent of our increase, that we give to the Lord to use as He wishes. We release it from our hand in our church, and we allow the pastors and leaders to apply it wisely and with divine guidance. It's not our job to know how it's used once we give it to the Lord. It's His. Now, there are two types of tithe...

Everyone needs a home church, or storehouse, to present their tithes. Giving to a TV ministry is not the intention of the tithe. They are not a storehouse for your community. It's great to give offerings to good TV ministries, but those are offerings, beyond the basic tithe to your home church.

a) Personal TithesIf you earn $1000 total per week, before taxes and expenses, the tithe would be $100. That's the way the jews calculated it under the law, and we take that to be the Biblical way to calculate it. If we calculated our tithe after our expenses, we might tithe on nothing, if we spend it all. It's all about honoring God with the FIRST fruits, as the Bible explains it.The tithe is what we "owe" the Lord. It's what He asked for. Then we trust Him to make our remaining 90% multiply and we end up with more blessing and prosperity. If we desire to give more than our tithe, a great practice, that is an offering and is voluntary. Please see below for more on that. Offerings are always voluntary, while the tithe is calculate with math and predetermined. The tithe remains in practice today, but more than a command, it's an opportunity to obey the Lord's request and invest in the kingdom of God, becoming a partner with God. We always give in obedience and of free will, never by pressure from people. It's personal between us and God.

b) Business Tithes - The same basic pricipals apply, but we calculate our increase a little differently. If you have a business, we believe it's best to calculate the tithe after the business expenses but before the discretionary spending. In other words, If your business takes in $1000, but your cost of inventory, expenses etc. is $900, your increase is really $100, so the tithe would be $10. Imagine if a huge supermarket earned $1,000,000 in receipts in a day, but they only had $100,000 in hand after expenses. If they tithed on the million, they'd end up giving all their net profit. The economy of a business is just different than a personal economy.

2) Offerings - All that we bring to the Lord beyond the tithe (10%) is offering. There's no limit to what you can give to Him in offerings. Some have been so propered in life that they give their 10% tithe, and then give offeings up to a total of 90% of their personal income. We know people who have done this. If you earn $2 million, you can easily live on $200,000. and your tithes and offeings woould be $900,000!!! Now that's some impact on the kingdom of God! It's all about what's in your heart to do. Then we see also in the Binble where the widom who had two mites (small coins) gave both or all she had, and the Lord Jesus said that she had given more than all the others. So it's not the quantity, it's what it represents to you. The offering is always about sacrifice, generosity and love.

3) AlmsWe always have poor and needy people around us. That will never stop. While we don't have to give to just anyone who asks (some are just fresh), we should learn to listen to our heart where He speaks to us, and give to those whom He instructs us to give.God loves everyone, and wants to help all, but he deals with each person according to their faith and obedience. That includes the giver and the receiver. When He asks you to give to a poor person and you obey, you pass the test. The receiver is blessed, but you are promoted! He can now trust you with greater things. It's a Win-Win for everyone!

As you read this, we assume that either we are your home church, or you have another home church. You should give your tithes to your own church. If we are your home church or if you don't have your own church, we will glady receive them for you. If you are a member of another congregation, but would like to give an offering you may also do so below. Just click the "donate" link below. May the Lord's blessings be yours!
